12th April 2014 - To celebrate the first Major of the year Almouj Golf held the Almouj Golf Magnolia Medal. In order to connect with the events unfolding at Augusta each competitor drew a player from the Masters field by lot, their net score would be added to their professional counterparts Friday score to give a combined total. To keep things friendly a modified scoring format was in place for the Almouj Golf Members where the maximum score that they could achieve on any one hole was a net double bogey.

With the Professionals contributing scores ranging from 70 all the way up to 83 it also seemed only fair to reward the Almouj Golf Members who put in the best showing with their own ball. This turned out to be a hotly contested prize with three players tied on a score of level par net 72, unfortunately losing out on countback but taking the runner up spot was Greg Andreasen. Narrowly beating Greg with a better back 9 holes by a single stroke was Kent Gray, Kent playing off a handicap of 9 is the editor of Middle East Golfer and was visiting Almouj Golf for the weekend to research an article. As well as playing on Thursday with the Head Professional Kent also requested to play with some of the members in order to get their perspective on the course - clearly this agreed with him as he put in a fine performance coming home in gross 39 for a total of 81, net 72. We look forward to reading the article!

When taking the professionals scores from Friday at Augusta into account it was Club Captain William Welsh who had drawn Jamie Donaldson that took the top honours. Donaldson's 70 was added to William's net 72 to give the winning combined total of 142.

The top 5 scores were as follows;
